Counselling, Supervision and Training Services for Students and Staff in Higher Education.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Only Connect 2.

Only Connect 2 is a unique and specialist service which offers counselling support, supervision and bespoke training across the higher education sector.

HE students and under-resourced HE staff now face more mental health challenges than ever, with increased depression, stress, loneliness, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, bullying, work complaints, relationship difficulties and bereavement. With a rise in the severity of challenges post-pandemic, times of intense pressure can trigger spiraling mental health as work life becomes demanding and overwhelming.

We understand how important it is for HE mental health support to be impactful, safe and effective. That’s why we offer both online and in-person sessions in central London.

Currently OC2 offers counselling support to students at HE institutions that are contracted to use the OC2 service. OC2 offers these students counselling sessions to address difficulties they may be facing in their lives. We can offer support either in-person or online on Microsoft Teams.

OC2 is also able to offer private counselling support to staff in higher education who are experiencing difficulties and would benefit from seeing a counsellor who understands the challenges of working in the higher education environment. They can also be seen in-person or online.

Frequently asked questions

What is the BACP?

The BACP stands for The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. The BACP is one of the largest professional membership organisations for counsellors and therapists in the U.K., providing an ethical framework for good practice for counsellors and therapists and information and guidance for people who access therapy. We abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice here.

How long will therapy take?

If you are a student attending contracted institutions you are entitled to up to 6 sessions. There is no specific time frame for HE staff when working on personal development and growth. Therapy sessions can be short or long-term depending on what changes you are looking to make and the variety of issues you are struggling with. Sessions are 50-minutes long.

How do I get in touch?

Just contact us at Only Connect 2 on 07354 808 346 or email info@onlyconnect2.com. We will send you a counselling registration form to complete and to return to us. Once we receive this form and you have told us when you are available and how you wish to be seen then we will allocate you to a counsellor for an assessment and book your assessment session.

What happens in a counselling session?

We provide a safe environment in which to explore your issues. You are free to discuss whatever is on your mind and the difficulties currently facing you. At Only Connect 2, we take a psychodynamic approach and tailor it to your needs. Counselling can help you gain clarity on an issue, change old patterns, untangle complex personal issues, or embark on a journey of self-development.

Do you offer online or in-person sessions?

At Only Connect 2, we offer in-person at our central London private practice at 1 Birkenhead Street or online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams - this provides a flexible and effective way to undergo counselling if meeting in person is inconvenient.

How long are your sessions, and how often do I need them?

Sessions are 50 minutes long for both in-person and online sessions. We see you weekly and you will discuss with your counsellor what sort of counselling contract will benefit you the most.

Are my counselling sessions confidential?

Yes, counselling sessions are confidential. We are ethically bound to keep what you share private. There are two exceptions: firstly if we become aware that you are an imminent danger to yourself or others or that someone else is a danger to you. You would be encouraged to seek necessary support, and if you were unable or unwilling to do so, we have a duty of care to seek this support on your behalf. The second exception is if we become aware that the counsellor would be liable to a civil or criminal court procedure if the information was not disclosed. In such a case, we are legally obligated to disclose such information to the relevant authorities.

Does my HE institution need to refer me for an appointment?

No. You are free to refer yourself to Only Connect 2.
